Matam: Customs seizes nearly 18.6 million CFA francs worth of fake medicines in Bondji
The Matam Mobile Customs Brigade, attached to the Northern Regional Customs Directorate, made a significant seizure of medicines and veterinary products with a total value of 18,644,500 CFA francs. The operation took place on Thursday September 24, 2026, around 10 a.m., near the town of Bondji, in the department of Kanel.
According to the Customs press release published this evening of September 27, the operation follows the exploitation of information reporting a shipment of medicines intended to supply the weekly Bondji market. The agents thus set up what the press release describes as an intelligent device which made it possible to intercept the goods before they reached their destination.
The details of the entry
The cargo consisted of two types of products: a batch of veterinary medicines estimated at nearly 2.5 million CFA francs, as well as 539 boxes of antihistamines valued at more than 16 million CFA francs.
Customs specifies that this seizure is part of a context of redeployment of certain internal units, with in particular a reinforcement in men and operational resources of mobile brigades, including that of Matam.
In its press release, the customs administration reaffirms its determination to continue the fight against illicit trafficking in all its forms, a mission carried out by surveillance units across the country.
