DPG: COJER Nationale calls on the government on its economic and social record
The day after the General Policy Declaration (DPG) delivered to the National Assembly by the new Prime Minister, the Convergence of Young Republicans (COJER Nationale) of the APR made public, on September 8, 2026, a press release setting out its position on the record of the power in place and on the legacy of former President Macky Sall.
In a press release published Tuesday, September 8, COJER Nationale – APR takes a critical look at the economic and political situation in Senegal. According to her, “the indicators do not correspond to the breakthrough objectives announced in 2024”. The organization relies in particular on the figures presented by the Prime Minister, showing non-hydrocarbon growth of 2.2% in 2025, a public deficit of 6.4% of GDP and a “still high” level of debt.
COJER also contests the idea of attributing the current situation solely to the results of the old regime. She believes that “any indictment is based on verifiable elements”. The agreement concluded with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) on September 1 is also the subject of criticism. COJER evokes “an evolution of position” of the Government in relation to its previous criticisms against the financial institution and notes the downgrades of Senegal’s sovereign rating by Moody’s and Standard & Poor’s. The organization is also concerned about certain measures announced in the General Policy Declaration, notably the abolition of 19 public agencies, the merger of seven others and the freeze on recruitment, which it considers to be “a restrictive orientation”.
The National COJER requests the publication of audits on public finances and land as well as the memorandum negotiated with the IMF. She calls for “quantified accountability” on the jobs created since May 2024.
