Gendarmerie: MONUSCO pays tribute to the peacekeepers of SENFPU 2-18 in Bunia

A total of 180 gendarmes from the Senegalese contingent (SENFPU 2-18), including 39 women, were decorated last Friday by MONUSCO, in Bunia, in the province of Ituri, in recognition of their commitment and services accomplished during their mandate within the Mission. The information was given on Tuesday by the Senegalese gendarmerie.

In Bunia, in the province of Ituri, MONUSCO organized, on Friday August 28, 2026, a Medal Parade ceremony during which 180 gendarmes from the Senegalese contingent (SENFPU 2-18), including 39 women, were decorated in recognition of their commitment and services accomplished during their mandate within the mission.

“Arriving in the mission area on September 18, 2025, SENFPU 2-18 made its contribution to MONUSCO’s efforts aimed at preserving security and ensuring the protection of civilian populations,” indicates the national gendarmerie through a note published Tuesday.

During its deployment, continues the same source, the unit notably took part in joint patrols with the MONUSCO Force and the Congolese Defense and Security Forces, thus contributing to maintaining a security presence in the town of Bunia and its surroundings.

The ceremony was chaired by the Deputy Police Commissioner of MONUSCO, General Senougnon Alain Bamenou, who took the opportunity to highlight the quality of the work accomplished by the Senegalese gendarmes.

“SENFPU 2-18 was also honored by the presence of the provincial governor of Ituri, testifying to the importance given to collaboration between provincial authorities, MONUSCO and security actors,” the text states.
