IMF: a new program of 1,245 billion FCFA over three years for Senegal

Between Senegal and the International Monetary Fund (IMF), negotiations have progressed well. At the end of the mission which began on August 19, an agreement at service level was reached for a technical partnership lasting three years.

It is backed by an IMF disbursement plan for a total amount of $2.2 billion, or approximately FCFA 1,245 billion at the market exchange rate of September 1, 2026.

The information was given by the resident representative of the IMF for Senegal and to the BCEAO, Majdi Debbich, on the sidelines of an exclusive interview given to Le Soleil.

“This is a first step in that this service level agreement must now be validated by our Board of Directors. But above all it is an important step which crowns two years of close collaboration that we have had with the authorities to deal with both the issue of misreporting and erroneous declarations on the debt,” he commented.

The technical agreement concluded between the IMF staff and the Senegalese authorities must now be submitted for approval to the institution’s Board of Directors. Its validation will constitute a decisive step before the implementation of the new partnership and the possible disbursements planned in this framework.
