Mbour-Fatick-Kaolack highway: 100 km to strengthen mobility and trade

The Mbour-Fatick-Kaolack toll highway, 100 kilometers long and completed by 15 kilometers of connecting roads, was officially put into service on Saturday in Thiadiaye, during a ceremony chaired by the Head of State, Bassirou Diomaye Faye.

This new infrastructure, with a total cost of $738 million, aims to strengthen the mobility of people and goods and facilitate trade between the Petite Côte and the heart of the Peanut Basin.

By connecting Mbour to Fatick and Kaolack, the highway also contributes to bringing populations, territories and Agropoles together, as part of the policy of territorial equity and harmonious development supported by the authorities.

The President of the Republic welcomed the commissioning of this work, presented as “a reason for national satisfaction”, as well as an illustration of the quality of relations between Senegal and the People’s Republic of China, which provided its financing.

Bassirou Diomaye Faye congratulated the Ministries of Infrastructure and Transport for having made it possible to shorten the execution times and put the work into circulation before the Gamou, for the benefit of pilgrims and users.

The project generated 3,000 direct jobs and enabled the payment of more than 18 billion CFA francs in salaries. Around twenty Senegalese companies and SMEs also participated in the work, with 60 billion CFA francs in subcontracting.

The commissioning of this road link thus constitutes an important step in strengthening the connectivity of the territory and the development of economic exchanges between the different areas served.

The inauguration took place in the presence of the ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Senegal.
