Xabi Alonso on an African striker: “He is very influential in the game and aggressive”
Bayer Leverkusen coach Xabi Alonso spoke about the performances of his Moroccan attacking midfielder, Amine Adli, since his arrival at the club this summer.
During his last press conference before the match against Heidenheim this Saturday, the 2010 world champion did not hide his satisfaction at working with a player of the talent and potential of Amine Adli.
“It is of paramount importance to us. He has a great influence on our game, he is aggressive, fits well into our attacks, and excels in the final passes.”, declared the former Real Madrid, Liverpool and Bayern Munich. He then identified areas in which the new Atlas Lion could further progress.
“He must improve his control of the ball, avoid rushing, and learn to measure the speed of play. He must understand when to advance quickly and when it is appropriate to play behind”added Xabi Alonso.
Adli preferred Leverkusen to OM
Amine Adli had chosen to join Bayer Leverkusen despite the interest shown by Olympique de Marseille this summer. Although sensitive to the progress of the Marseille club, he ultimately opted for the team led by Xabi Alonso.
“Initially, I really wanted to succeed in Ligue 1. It’s the country where I was born, and playing in France was my dream. However, I received attractive offers from abroad, with real opportunities to progress in my career. The summer was stressful because it was a key moment in my career. I had a lot of apprehensions about my choice and how things were going to work out,” the 23-year-old explained when it was made official.
“Not an easy summer. I am happy to be able to take an important step in my career within a family club, which trusts young people and which has great ambitions“, added the Moroccan.
