CAN 2023 (Q) / Mozambique-Benin: the release date of Gernot Rohr's list known

“We know it’s not going to be simple”, Gernot Rohr before Mozambique-Benin

At a press conference this Friday in Maputo, Gernot Rohr discussed the match against Mozambique in the CAN 2023 qualifier. And the Benin coach expects a difficult match against the Mambas.

The Beninese selection has been in Maputo, Mozambique since Thursday evening. The group faces the Mambas this Saturday, September 9, 2023 as part of the sixth day of the CAN 2023 qualifiers. One last chance for the Cheetahs who must snatch victory to obtain their ticket for the trip to Ivory Coast, host of the African competition which will take place from January 13 to February 11, 2024.

At a press conference this Friday, coach Gernot Rohr returned to his team’s objective for this duel. And the Franco-German technician assured that his troop came as conquerors.

“I think so, the team is ready. We had a relatively easy trip. We were able to have a direct plane and not do tours in other countries. So, we arrived in good conditions. The team rested and then today, we do the little training. We are going to attack this match as a conqueror“, declared Rohr in comments relayed by the FBF.

But far from taking this Mozambican team in high regard, the former coach of the Super Eagles expects above all a difficult match against the Mambas, winners of the Guépards (1-0) in Cotonou last June.

The goal is victory! Of course, it’s the only chance to be at the CAN in the African Cup of Nations. The objective is therefore victory. We know it’s not going to be easy. Here, there is a good team that plays good football. We had seen it, since I was not there in the first leg where this team managed to win without any discussion, 1-0, in Cotonou. She deserved her victory. Today it’s up to us to respond and try to win this game” , he added.

As a reminder, the Mozambique vs Benin match will be held this Saturday at the Estadio Nacional Do Zimpeto at 2 p.m. Cotonou time.
