UN: Macky Sall thanks Bassirou Diomaye Faye for his renewed support

Former President of Senegal, Macky Sall, reiterated his thanks to President Bassirou Diomaye Faye as well as Burundian President Évariste Ndayishimiye for their renewed support for his candidacy for the post of Secretary General of the United Nations.

In a message published on his social networks, the Senegalese candidate welcomed the hearings held on this subject with the Senegalese head of state, on the sidelines of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly, which is currently being held in New York.

This release comes the day after Bassirou Diomaye Faye spoke on Thursday, September 24, before the General Assembly. From the podium, the Senegalese head of state reaffirmed Senegal’s support for his predecessor and called on member states to support his candidacy, pleading for a secretary general capable of dialogue with all member countries.

The Senegalese president also defended this candidacy during an interview given Thursday to RFI and France 24. Asked about Macky Sall’s prospects, he dismissed the ambient pessimism, recalling that nothing has yet been decided until the five permanent members of the Security Council have decided on their position.
