Republican police officials are very determined to lead the fight against jihadism alongside their brothers in arms in the armed forces. This is the assurance given by the DGPR during a tour in Banikoara.

During a government tour in Banikoara following the terrorist attacks of May 1 and 2, 2023, the director general of the Republican police, Soumaila Yaya, shared the commitment of his elements to leave no room for jihadists.

“Defending Benin’s position is defending yourself. They need to defend themselves because if they do not agree to defend their position, it is because they are candidates for death. But, none of them are there to be a candidate for death. So they have to give their best“, suggested the DGPR.

For the first of the cops, the fight against terrorism is everyone’s business, not just the military. Republican police officers are well aware of this. And to be up to the task, they must be well equipped.

To face the jihadists, you must not have a police stick in hand. You have to have real police. A solid, seasoned police, a police that can participate in this fight. To participate in this fight, it is not with sticks, it is with weapons, it is with a good training, it is with a good state of mind“, added Soumaïla Yaya who dreams of a strong collaboration between police and military.
