The opposition UPND has welcomed a call by President Edgar LUNGU through Presidential aid Amos CHANDA that he acknowledges the need for the church to be part of the national dialogue.
President LUNGU has appealed to the Zambia Centre for Interparty Dialogue –ZCID- to find space for the church to join the leadership of the national dialogue process.
Party spokesman Charles KAKOMA says the party is ready to go ahead with the national dialogue as long as the church remains at the centre of all efforts aimed at consensus building on national matters.
And the Zambia Conference of Catholic Bishops Secretary General, Father Cleophas LUNGU says the church is ready to play its role of peace-building in Zambia adding that the call by the Head of State is timely.
Meanwhile the Council of Churches in Zambia –CCZ- Secretary General Father Emmanuel CHIKOYA has urged both the ruling party PF and the UPND to put the interest of the country first before their partisan interests.
