The United Arab Emirates wants to strengthen its deployment in strategic sectors such as energy and mining
The President of the Republic, Bassirou Diomaye Faye received this Friday at the Palace a delegation from the United Arab Emirates, led by Dr Thani Al Zeyoudi, Minister of Foreign Trade.
The discussions focused on strengthening cooperative relations between the two countries. Several promising projects are envisaged in strategic sectors, notably energy, mines and port infrastructure, informs the communication services of the Presidency of the Republic.
The United Arab Emirates is a federal state in the Middle East made up of seven emirates located along the Persian Gulf. According to a survey published in early August 2026 by the Financial Times, based on “fDi Markets” data, Emirati companies and funds have announced that they have injected more than $168 billion into projects on the African continent since 2017 to date.
Although reservations can be validly expressed as to the effectiveness of the deployment of these funds, the mere announcement of such an amount is enough to confirm the growing interest of Emiratis in the considerable opportunities offered by the African continent.
It should be noted that the Emirati presence in Africa is noted in different sectors but mainly in the port sector. This is how the port giant DP World has deployed in Senegal, Angola, Algeria, Egypt, Mozambique among others.
In Senegal, DP World has operated the Dakar container terminal since 2008, which has considerably increased its capacities. In April 2026, port operator DP World announced that it had handled its 10 millionth container at the Port of Dakar terminal. A performance which confirms a strategic choice.
