THE ST. IGNATIUS MOMENT – WHAT UNITES US IS GREATER THAN WHAT DIVIDES US

Today, 28th October 2019 is a very special day in the life of the Patriotic Front (PF) as we celebrate the gallant son of the African soil, the patriarch and founding President of the ruling Party His Excellency Mr. Michael Chilufya Sata.

On this day, we have seen the heartfelt embracing and shaking of hands between separated siblings of our founding father’s political family; in the manner that President Sata would have loved his disconnected protégés to do on such a day as this one.

The differences that normally characterise the political space become artificial when we realise that there is the bigger and most important picture to serving the people of Zambia.

The warmth in the embracing and shaking of hands between His Excellency President Edgar Chagwa Lungu and National Democratic Congress (NDC) leader Chishimba Kambwili is how it should be – that we can have differences of opinion but still hold true to our values as a people.

In the heart warming words of President Lungu – he holds nothing against Comrade Kambwili. It was equally gratifying to hear that Comrade Kambwili holds nothing against the President and the Party that he immensely contributed to.

Patriotic Front upholds the principle that there is time for everything and a time must come for the nation to hold together, above the agenda of any ego.

In the words of the 3rd Chapter of the Book of Ecclesiastes, there is:

A time to be born and a time to die,
A time to plant and a time to uproot,
A time to kill and a time to heal,
A time to tear down and a time to build,
A time to weep and a time to laugh,
A time to mourn and a time to dance,
A time to scatter stones and a time to gather them,
A time to embrace and a time to refrain from embracing,
A time to search and a time to give up,
A time to keep and a time to throw away,
A time to tear and a time to mend,
A time to be silent and a time to speak,
A time to love and a time to hate.

28th October 2019 – the day that marked the fifth Memorial of the call to Glory of our founding father is a watershed that has signalled a new time.

It is a time that heralds a call from the heavenly resting place of the great Patriarch of PF, that there is sufficient room for Reconciliation and Healing among the apprentices of the master builder of the Boat of Patriotic Front.

It is a time to heal wounds and a time to build bridges just as it is a time to gather and a time to embrace.

As the 133rd Psalm puts it:

“How wonderful and pleasant it is when brothers live together in harmony!”

For harmony is as precious as the anointing oil that was poured over Aaron’s head that ran down his beard and onto the border of his robe;

Harmony is as refreshing as the dew from Mount Hermon that falls on the mountains of Zion.

And there the Lord has pronounced his blessing, even life everlasting”.

Where the Spirit of the LORD is, there is Unity.

Let brotherly Love continue.
Natutemwane.

Amen.
