The President of the Republic in Washington and Abu Dhabi: working visits under the sign of strengthening partnerships

Traveling this Sunday to Washington (United States), the President of the Republic, Bassirou Diomaye Faye, intends to consolidate cooperation between Senegal and the United States of America. The Head of State will then travel to the United Arab Emirates, before returning to Dakar on September 17.

The President of the Republic, Bassirou Diomaye Faye, left Dakar yesterday for Washington (United States). According to a press release from the Presidency of the Republic, the American capital is the first stage of a trip which will then take the Head of State to the United Arab Emirates. “This working visit is part of the consolidation of Senegal’s economic and financial partnerships with its major international partners, serving the country’s development priorities,” adds the same source.

In Washington, Head of State Bassirou Diomaye Faye will work to strengthen relations between the two countries. He will also meet American partners. The trip by President Bassirou Diomaye Faye aims to strengthen relations with Senegal’s main financial partners.

Senegal and the United States have established cooperative relations dating back decades. On March 13, 2026, the American department announced the signing of a historic memorandum of understanding on the health sector between Dakar and Washington. This five-year protocol worth 135 million dollars, or approximately 74.2 billion FCfa, aims to strengthen the Senegalese health system. “This jointly decided memorandum of understanding builds on more than 20 years of health cooperation between the United States and Senegal and reflects the commitment of both governments to sustainable, locally led health systems,” the document states. It aims to “prevent the spread of infectious diseases and improve health outcomes for the Senegalese people”.
After Washington and the United Arab Emirates, the head of state will return to Dakar on September 17.
