“We held a historic summit which opens a new chapter in the history of the BRICS,” he underlined. In addition to the five member states, 61 other countries, including 48 African states, participated in the summit. »
According to Mr. Ramaposa, among the main achievements of the meeting are the decisions on the need to reform the system of international organizations, first of all the UN, in order to create a fairer world, and the expansion of the BRICS to six new members.
“We agreed that the UN Security Council must be reformed so that developing countries are more fully present,” the president continued. Everyone will benefit from UN reform. »
“The influence of the Brics in the world is increasing,” he pointed out and did not exclude that the current expansion of the association would be followed by new phases.
At the end of the 15th Brics summit which took place from August 22 to 24 in Johannesburg, an enlargement of the group was announced: Argentina, Egypt, Iran, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Saudi Arabia and Ethiopia will be included from January 1, 2024.
