The Engineering Institution Zambia is a professional statutory regulatory body mandated by the EIZ Act No. 17 of 2010 to promote and regulate the practice of engineering and allied disciplines in Zambia.
Amongst its other functions the institution is mandated under Section 4(1) (m) of the Act “in consultation with the Ministry responsible for education and the Technical Education Vocational and Entrepreneurship Training Authority, accredit universities, technical colleges, institutions and programmes of instruction leading to the award of qualifications of membership classes”.
In this regard, the EIZ has signed an MoU with Higher Education Authority today Wednesday, 17th May 2017, with EIZ Registrar/CEO Eng. Newton Zulu signing on behalf of the EIZ and HEA Director General, Eng. Prof. Stephen Simukanga signing on behalf of the Higher Education Authority.
Further the parties therefore, agree to enter into this Memorandum of Understanding for the purposes of accrediting engineering learning programs offered by Higher Education Institutions in Zambia.
The Parties have agreed to undertake collaborate in respect of evaluation, auditing and accreditation of engineering learning programs and institutions to ensure that there is total quality assurance in the programmes offered at learning institutions.
This MoU is entered into by the parties in order to;
i. Establish the manner in which the Parties will interact with each other in respect of evaluation, auditing and accreditation of engineering learning programs and institutions.
ii. To evaluate, audit and accredit engineering learning programs and institutions.
Accreditation of engineering programs will help provide feedback to the educational institutions for improvement and development of educational programs in engineering that can better meet the needs and expectations of the local industry.
Signing this MoU with Higher Education Authority which accredits engineering programs in higher learning institutions gives EIZ a greater opportunity to participate in the process of examining and evaluating all educational programs of engineering nature offered by the learning institutions to ensure that they meet the high standards of engineering training.
