The Somali government confirmed that the explosion that occurred on Tuesday in Mogadishu was an attempted assassination against President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, awarded to the Al-Shabaab terrorist group.

According to the Ministry of Information, the presidential convoy was referred to around 10:32 am (07:32 GMT) in the Xamar-Jajab district, in Mogadiscio. The security forces opened an investigation into this attack which took place near a highly secure area of ​​the capital. “Thanks to the unity of our people and the support of our international partners, we guarantee peace and lasting stability for Somalia”said the ministry.

Hussein Sheikh Ali, National Security Advisor to the President, said President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud was safe and was in the cities of the front line. The Al-Shabaab terrorist group, affiliated with Al-Qaeda, claimed the attack, adding that it has targeted the presidential convoy on the road to the airport.
