Somalia: a Mogadiscio hotel targeted by an attack
An undetermined number of people lost their lives after a group of armed men attacked a popular hotel on Friday 224 evening a popular hotel located by the sea in Mogadiscio, the capital of Somalia, according to police sources and witnesses.
The latter said that an explosion had targeted the Lido Beach hotel-restaurant near buildings housing government security services. “I heard two strong explosions followed by fed fire near the hotel. Shooting exchanges took place on the beach side between Shebab fighters and hotel security agents ”reported a resident under the cover of anonymity.
According to witnesses, a suicide bomber blew himself up on the beach after the attackers opened fire on the hotel. For the moment, the exact number of victims remains unknown.
Indeed, residents have indicated that several people are still within the establishment, which is frequented by senior officials. In addition, witnesses have reported that security agents have shot some of the combatants involved in the attack, and that a rescue operation is underway.
