Sheep reproduction and fattening: Fonstab injects more than 500 million FCFA into Kaolack
The Minister responsible for Livestock, Ousmane Diagne, chaired, Saturday October 3, 2026 in Kaolack, a ceremony to hand over funding checks and training certificates to beneficiaries of the sheep reproduction and fattening program. More than 500 million CFA francs have been mobilized for the benefit of cooperatives and economic interest groups (EIGs).
Supported by the Stabulation Support Fund (Fonstab), in partnership with the National Professional Training Office (ONFP) and Heifer International, the initiative aims to strengthen sheep production and the capacities of stakeholders. The funding is intended to support the development of the beneficiaries’ activities. “Behind these certificates and this funding, there are men and women capable of taking care of themselves. This approach is part of the dynamic of strengthening national production and intensifying the modernization of livestock breeding,” declared the general administrator of Fonstab, Ms. Diouf, born Fatou Diop Bakhoum.
According to her, Fonstab has to date 5,549 projects financed, for a total amount of 21.4 billion CFA francs. The program also helped strengthen the capacities of 750 beneficiaries. The training focused in particular on sheep reproduction and fattening, farm management and animal feeding. The system is based on three levers, namely training, financing and monitoring. It also focuses on forage crops, animal health and marketing.
The Minister responsible for Livestock welcomed this initiative, estimating that it will increase national production, improve the income of breeders and better develop resources.
Ousmane Diagne invited beneficiaries to respect their commitments, particularly in terms of reimbursement. “Each successful project, each repaid funding will allow other young people, other women and other cooperatives to access, in turn, this system,” he underlined.
