Sanitized Plots: Fatou Kiné Diakhate mobilizes more than 20 million FCFA to support ASCs and youth
The deputy chief of staff of the President of the Republic, Fatou Kiné Diakhaté, announced on Sunday the mobilization of an envelope of more than 20 million CFA francs intended to support sports and cultural associations (ASC), martial arts halls and young people from Parcelles Assainies.
Speaking at the Léopold Sédar Senghor stadium, during a ceremony to hand over equipment to the community’s ASCs, she presented this initiative as the expression of a “proximity political project”, based on “listening, action on the ground and concrete results”.
According to her, supporting young people, women and people with disabilities constitutes a major axis of this approach, in particular through training, professional integration, entrepreneurship and access to financing. “Training is not enough,” she insisted, emphasizing the need to provide beneficiaries with the equipment and resources necessary to transform their skills into real economic opportunities.
In detail, Ms. Diakhaté, founding member of Kiiraay-Les Patriotes Républicains, announced a contribution of 500,000 CFA francs for each of the two zones, 200,000 CFA francs for each of the 35 ASCs and 36 martial arts rooms. An envelope of 57,000 CFA francs per ASC was also released for the creation of economic interest groups (EIGs), intended to develop income-generating activities.
In addition to this financial support, sports equipment is provided to the beneficiary structures. In total, “more than 20 million CFA francs” were mobilized for sport and support for youth, she said.
The deputy chief of staff of the Head of State also called for going beyond the image of ASCs reduced to their sole sporting vocation. She believes that these associations constitute “living forces” capable of mobilizing youth and contributing to the economic and social development of the municipality.
Addressing young people trained in building electricity and mechanical maintenance, she urged them to transform their skills into professional activities and, ultimately, into employment opportunities for other young people.
For Fatou Kiné Diakhaté, this approach reflects a conception of public action which must be measured “by actions” and not only by speeches. She also called on the beneficiaries to live up to the trust placed in them.
“The change we want for the Sanitized Parcels will not come from above. It will come from us, from our mobilization, from our ability to organize ourselves and to bring together the same ambition for our commune,” she declared.
Finally, she invited young people not to give up their ambitions and to take an active part in the development of their municipality. “The development of a municipality cannot be decreed. It is built methodically, with consistency and with those who, every day, carry the ambition,” she underlined.
