PLFR 2026: the National Assembly open to a consensual solution with the Government
The National Assembly says it is prepared to meet the Government, this afternoon, to continue discussions around the examination of the amended finance bill (PLFR) for the year 2026.
In an information note published this Monday, October 26, the parliamentary institution reaffirms its availability for dialogue, while specifying the conditions for a consultation likely to lead to a compromise.
This opening comes following a request from the Prime Minister to continue discussions with the parliamentary authorities around the examination of the PLFR 2026.
In its note, the National Assembly specifies that the president of the Finance and Budgetary Control Commission contacted the Minister of the Economy, Finance and Budget this Monday in order to obtain additional information and documents on the bill.
The parliamentary institution considers that this approach is necessary to allow a useful and constructive discussion on the points that remain unresolved.
She also recalls that the examination of the text is primarily the responsibility of the Finance and Budgetary Control Committee as well as the parliamentary groups. According to the note, the President of the National Assembly does not participate in the work of the committees or in the debates in plenary session.
On a procedural level, the National Assembly emphasizes that the work of the committee being closed and the plenary session being scheduled for Tuesday, October 27, no new formal procedure can reasonably be initiated before the examination of the text in plenary.
Despite this constraint, the institution says it is ready to receive the Government, according to a composition at its convenience, which may include the Prime Minister, the Minister responsible for Finance and the other ministers concerned.
“Our availability for dialogue is complete,” affirms the National Assembly, which says it wants to seek a compromise while respecting the prerogatives of each institution and on the basis of precise responses to the concerns raised by parliamentarians.
The parliamentary institution thus places the best interests of the Senegalese people at the heart of its approach, on the eve of the examination of the PLFR 2026 in plenary session.
