PRESS STATEMENT FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
PATRIOTIC FRONT CONDEMNS ATTACK ON MR. ISAAC MWANZA BY UPND
21st November 2019
The Patriotic Front (PF) wishes to register its disappointment at attacks targeted at Mr. Isaac Mwanza, former National Dialogue Forum (NDF) Spokesperson by United Party for National Development (UPND).
It is sad that the UPND of Mr. Hakainde Hichilema sees nothing wrong with their cadres descending on Mr. Mwanza simply because he held a different view from theirs.
The levels of intolerance within UPND are alarming that we even wonder why some seemingly right thinking members of society see nothing wrong with a Party that hides its constitution under its armpits and yet professes democracy.
But we are not shocked because some of those in the forefront fighting Bill 10 have had themselves lined up for the UPND running mate, an exercise best described as futile.
There is a reason why UPND has frozen the position of Vice President. Sadly the membership is so hypnotized that they do not see anything wrong with it.
For a Party formed in 1998 and having contested elections in 2001, 2006, 2008, 2011, 2015 and 2016 and lost all of them, we expect that they would have matured by now to understand that rented crowds like what we saw in Kitwe have never won them any election and will not do for 2021. UPND needs to find itself. Zambians are fatigued with its alpha and omega life Pressure but those hypnotized do not see it that way. Two solid years before the next election, UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema has already declared himself winner of the 2021 election. We sympathise with him because greater will be his fall come August 2021.
We therefore appeal to UPND to deal with it’s own high levels of antagonism and bitterness. We have said it over the years and we will say it again that UPND is a poisoned chalice, tribal to the core that even its leader’s political birthing was occasioned on a tribal cradle. Once again we wish to remind the UPND that while it fronts itself as a democratic party and viable alternative, it is tribal to the core. Zambia is not ready for a tribal party.
