Higher Education Minister Dr Brian Mushimba has clarified that government consulted the University of Zambia–UNZA- and Copperbelt University –CBU- on reopening but did not ask for their immediate opening.
Some stakeholders have criticized government for hastily reopening the two high institutions of learning after managements of the two institutions indicated that the schools have not yet met to discuss the measures to put in place to ensure each hostel room only accommodates two students as directed by government.
But in an interview with Phoenix News, Dr Mushimba is surprised with the misunderstanding by the two universities.
Dr Mushimba says his ministry was not expecting the two universities to immediately reopen before meeting the required health measures further stating that it is the responsibility of the two high learning institutions to ensure they are ready to resume classes.
