Mozambique-Benin: Tosin Aiyegun forfeits, Ghislain Ahoudo as reinforcement

Dadjè FC midfielder, Ghislain Ahoudo, will replace Tosin Aiyegun, who was withdrawn from the Mozambique-Benin meeting, on the occasion of the sixth day of the CAN 2023 qualifiers.

Tosin Aiyegun will not play the sixth round of the qualifying phases of CAN 2023. Summoned with 24 others for the clash against Mozambique on September 9 in Maputo, the striker will not honor this decisive meeting with his presence.

The Guépards center forward is out of this battle against the Mambas due to an injury sustained during a match with his club Lorient FC in the French Ligue 1. According to information reaching Benin Web TV, the player is injured in the thigh and his club has decided to protect him from this trip which could worsen his situation.

A big blow for national coach Gernot Rohr and his staff who will have to do without this important locker room executive. For his replacement, the Franco-German technician chose the Dadjè FC player, Ghislain Ahoudo. Called in the meantime to help the group, the midfielder is now an integral part of Rohr’s squad for the trip to Mozambique.

Victory to qualify

Held in check by Senegal (1-1) during the previous day, the Cheetahs must snatch victory against the Mambas to validate their passport for the trip to Ivorian soil.

Second in the standings after its logical victory against Rwanda (2-0) last June, the Mozambican selection only needs a draw to be one of those called to this African mass. As a reminder, the match is scheduled for September 9, 2023 at the Estadio Nacional do Zimpeto in Maputo at 3 p.m. GMT.
