Zesco United head coach, George Lwandamina, has defended his move of turning striker Winston Kalengo into a right back defender.
Kalengo was introduced from the bench in the first half to replace central defender David Odhiambo during their 2-1 away Super Division win over Prison Leopards.
“We have a problem at the back but Kalengo did very well as a defender. Even me I started as a striker but became a defender later. There are a lot of people that switch positions,” Lwandamina told Zambia Daily Mail.
Prisons were regularly attacking from Kalengo’s position and he did his best though Zesco conceded from that wing.
On the positive side, Kalengo was the creator of Zesco United’s first goal as his cross was well converted by Kenyan striker Jesse Were.
Harambee midfielder Anthony Akumu then scored a long range winner deep in added minutes.
