LFR 2026: the text sent back to committee for further discussions
The draft Amending Finance Law (Lfr) 2026 is referred to the Finance and Budgetary Control Committee. At the opening of the general discussion on Tuesday, the Minister of Economy, Finance and Planning, Cheikh Diba, requested this measure in order to allow the government and deputies to continue their exchanges.
To justify his request, the minister invoked article 84 of the internal regulations of the National Assembly, which provides for the referral of a text to the committee on the merits during the general discussion, until its closure.
“The government is requesting this referral to the Finance and Budgetary Control Committee for additional discussions as soon as possible,” declared Cheikh Diba.
This approach comes in a context of tensions around the examination of the budgetary text. The minister notably mentioned the exchanges initiated on Monday October 26, following the Prime Minister’s call for dialogue, as well as the correspondence exchanged between the chairman of the finance committee and the ministry.
The return to committee should allow for a deeper examination of the concerns raised by MEPs and to explore the possibilities of compromise.
The President of the National Assembly, Ousmane Sonko, took note of the government’s request and immediately convened the Conference of Presidents.
