Kenya: a shoe launched on President Ruto, 03 arrests

A shoe was launched on President Kenyan William Ruto on Sunday May 4, during a public rally in the county of Migori, to the west of the country. At least three people were arrested in the process, report the local media.

The incident occurred while the Head of State was addressed to the crowd as part of a tour devoted to the launch of development projects. The object launched by a participant reached the president on the left arm. Despite the attack, William Ruto continued his speech, asking his bodyguards not to intervene.

Videos of the scene, which have become viral on social networks, show him holding the shoe in his hand while continuing to speak. Government spokesperson Isaac Mwaura condemned the act in a message published on X (formerly Twitter): “What would happen if we all started to start shoes?” What values do we transmit to our children? »»

For many analysts, this gesture illustrates a climate of increasing frustration, fueled by the economic crisis that strikes the country. Price increase, cost of increasing living, pressure on households: so many factors that feed the anger of part of the population.
