Interpellation of Reug Reug: the Association of Wrestlers of Senegal reacts and calls for calm
This Friday, September 25, 2026, the day after the arrest of wrestler Oumar Kane, better known as Reug Reug, the National Association of Wrestlers of Senegal (ANLS) stepped up to deliver its first official reaction.
MMA heavyweight world champion at One Championship and resident of the Thiaroye-sur-Mer stable, Reug Reug, whose real name is Oumar Kane, was arrested the day before by the Faidherbe Gendarmerie Research Brigade, according to information relayed by the press and confirmed by the association itself. This concerns a case of counterfeit notes.
“Deep dismay”
In his press release signed in Dakar, the president of the ANLS, Ibrahima Dione known as Gris Bordeaux, does not hide the emotion aroused by the news within the inner circle. “It is with deep dismay that the Association of Wrestlers of Senegal learned, this Friday, September 25, 2026, through the press, of the arrest of our brother and member of the Thiaroye stable, the wrestler Oumar KANE known as Reug-Reug, by the Faidherbe Gendarmerie Research Brigade,” we can read from the first lines of the text.
The president of the body says he is speaking on behalf of the entire corporation: “In my capacity as President of the Wrestlers’ Association, I would like, on behalf of all the wrestlers of Senegal, to express our deep emotion and our sincere regrets in the face of this situation which concerns the entire wrestling family. »
The struggle presented as a “school of discipline”
Beyond emotion, the press release takes care to recall the values that the ANLS intends to defend, whatever the outcome of the case. “Senegalese wrestling has always been and will remain a school of discipline, respect and citizenship. Each wrestler, beyond the arena, is a model and a benchmark for our youth,” insists Ibrahima Dione.
On the merits of the case, the association refrains from any comments and refers to the current legal proceedings. “In this painful circumstance, the Association of Wrestlers takes note that this matter is now in the hands of the Justice of our country, in which we place our complete confidence,” affirms the press release, which also specifies that the structure “follows with the greatest attention the evolution of this file, in conjunction with the advice of the wrestler and the competent authorities”.
Call for calm and presumption of innocence
The text also includes a strong call for restraint, in a context where the matter has already become widely part of the public debate.
The ANLS concludes by reaffirming its support for the person concerned and his loved ones, while committing to transparency within the limits imposed by the procedure: “The Association reaffirms its moral support to the family of the wrestler in these difficult times, while remaining faithful to its principles of defense of the ethics and image of our discipline. The Wrestlers’ Association remains mobilized and will not fail to keep public opinion informed, while respecting the secrecy of the instruction. »
