This year the COSAFA Cup celebrated 22 years since the first tournament was staged all the way back in 1997.

The 2019 event was staged in Durban, South Africa.Went on from May 25 – June 8.The tournament provided excellent competition, Amazing Comebacks and as usual intriguing and thrilling Post Match penalties and teams weighed themselves up for the soon coming 2019 Africa Cup of Nations finals and the 2010 African Nations Championship qualifiers.

This year’s competition was hosted in partnership with the South African Football Association and the eThekwini Municipality.

Here is a brief trip down memory lane as we look at how the tournament has evolved in past editions.

*•1997 ~ COSAFA CUP🇿🇲*
•Zambia were crowned inaugural champions of the COSAFA Cup after they claimed the 1997 event with top spot in the tournament mini-league.

*•1998 ~ COSAFA CUP🇿🇲*
•Zambia were crowned Champions Again 2 times consecutively

*•1999 ~ COSAFA CUP*
•Angola Emerged Champions

*•2000 ~ COSAFA CUP*
•The fourth installment of the COSAFA Cup saw Zimbabwe claim a first ever title, one of four they would go on to win to date.

*•2001~ COSAFA CUP*
•Angola won thier 2nd Title

*•2002 ~ COSAFA CUP*
•South Africa won a maiden COSAFA Cup

*•2003 ~ COSAFA CUP*
•Zimbabwe claimed their second COSAFA Cup title

*•2004 ~ COSAFA CUP*
•Angola became the most successful country in COSAFA Cup history at the time when they won the 2004 edition of the competition ,their third and to date last title triumph.

•Zimbabwe claimed their third COSAFA Cup title

*•2006 ~ COSAFA CUP🇿🇲*
•Zambia recorded their third COSAFA Cup triumph.

*•2007 ~ COSAFA CUP*
•South Africa won the first of two successive COSAFA Cup titles

*•2008 ~ COSAFA CUP*
•Hosts South Africa lifted the coveted trophy for the second time in succession, and third time overall.

*•2009 ~ COSAFA CUP*
•Zimbabwe claimed a record fourth COSAFA Cup title when they won on home soil in 2009.

*•2013 ~ COSAFA CUP🇿🇲*
•Zambia emerged as winners of the 2013 COSAFA Cup, a tournament they hosted, to join Zimbabwe on four victories in the regional championship.

*•2015 ~ COSAFA CUP*
•Namibia claimed a maiden triumph.

*•2016 ~ COSAFA CUP*
•South Africa would join Zambia and Zimbabwe on four wins each as they defeated Botswana 3-2 in the final.

*•2017 ~ COSAFA CUP*
•Zimbabwe claimed a record fifth COSAFA Cup title and did it in some style as well.

*•2018 ~ COSAFA CUP*
•Zimbabwe made it back-to-back tournament wins with a thrilling 4-2 success over Zambia in the final played at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane.

*•2019 ~ COSAFA CUP🇿🇲*
•Zambia ended their seven year wait for COSAFA Cup glory when they defeated Botswana 1-0 in the final to claim thier 5th title overall.

By that win Zambia are now clear second on the COSAFA Cup honours list with five wins, one behind record champions Zimbabwe.
