HH SHOULD DIRECT NICHOLAS PHIRI TO RELEASE THE HATEMBOS – REV SUZANNE MATALE
FORMER General Secretary of the Council of Churches Churches of Zambia (CCZ) Reverend Dr. Suzanne Matale has called on UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema to direct Nicholas Phiri Executive of Zitikule Consortium to release them back to their families.
“What the Hatembos are currently going through is inhuman and cruel and cannot be justified by simply saying that they are in the custody of Zitikule Consortium. Their family and friends miss them a lot and vice versa. It’s an infringement of one’s right to be kept away from loved ones especially for this long. No person deserves such treatment regardless,” said Rev Matale.
She further added that before their abduction starts recieving a lot of sympathy and subsequently backlash from the public, HH must direct Nicholas Phiri to release the Hatembos and that two months is a long time for people to be kept like pets in cage.
“It doesn’t matter what their plans are once they are released, whether they continue with their case or not HH should not be seen to be trying to silence them lest people judge him to be guilty. If they are not released now especially after his member of Parliament Cornelius Mweetwa told the nation that they are with Nicholas Phiri, the UPND have put Nicholas Phiri in an awkward situation and I shudder at the thought of what would happen to him should anything bad happen to them whilst they are under his custody. God have mercy,” she added.
Rev Matale also called on Politicians in general to desist from playing games with people’s lives because they are not the givers of life. She charged that what is happening to the Hatembos is not only an infringement of their human rights but also a sin in the eyes of Jahovah the giver and taker of life. “Let the Hatembos be released,” she commanded.
