Grand-Yoff: two arrests in a Tapentadol trafficking case
The Grand-Yoff district police station arrested two individuals in connection with an alleged case of trafficking in psychotropic substances, illegal practice of the pharmaceutical profession and sale of falsified or prohibited medicines.
The case follows operational intelligence reporting the existence of a “Tapentadol” trafficking network at the Grand-Yoff market. The main suspect, already cited in several legal proceedings for similar facts, is said to have implemented stratagems to escape police controls.
A surveillance operation carried out on September 17, from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m., near his place of business allowed the police to observe him illicitly selling pharmaceutical and psychotropic products. According to the information collected, he hid his stocks in a box located near his stall.
The intervention, launched around 7 p.m., led to his arrest. Two strips containing a total of 40 Tapentadol tablets were discovered during the body search. The search of his premises then led to the seizure of 11 other packs, i.e. 110 additional tablets, as well as various pharmaceutical products, including Cipromed 500, amoxicillin Mokcit 500 and ibuprofen. Products intended for morphological modifications were also found. A sum of money was also seized and placed under seal as part of the procedure.
The supplier arrested
Continuing investigations allowed investigators to identify and arrest the alleged supplier, a trader domiciled at Cité Millionnaire, in Grand-Yoff. According to investigators, he admitted to marketing Tapentadol for around three months, explaining his activity by financial difficulties. He also allegedly admitted to obtaining supplies from the Dakar black market and illegally selling pharmaceutical products without having the required qualifications.
Investigations also focused on the origin of the money found in his possession. The accused allegedly declared that part came from his illicit commercial activity and the other from a tontine, without however being able to provide the list of participants.
