Goudiry: people march to demand speed bumps on the RN1
Young people, women and children beat the tarmac, Saturday October 17, 2026, in Goudiry, to demand the installation of speed bumps and the strengthening of safety measures on National Road 1 (RN1), after several fatal accidents on this axis crossing the town.
The march, organized in a peaceful and apolitical manner, follows in particular the death of young A. Cissakho, aged less than eight years old, hit by an ambulance on Wednesday October 7, around 5 p.m., while it was traveling from Tambacounda towards Bakel. The organizers also mention the death of Ibra Thiam’s son on the same road.
Through this mobilization, the populations wish to draw the attention of the authorities to the risks linked to traffic in the crossing of Goudiry, where the RN1 runs alongside inhabited neighborhoods, schools, health structures and public services.
The demonstrators are demanding in particular the installation of regulatory speed bumps, the provision of secure pedestrian crossings, the strengthening of signage and lighting, as well as regular speed checks, particularly at entry and exit times from classes.
In a memorandum addressed to the prefect of the department, the organizers also request an urgent technical visit bringing together the competent services, the municipality and the populations. They recommend, while waiting for the work to be completed, temporary measures to better protect users, particularly students and other vulnerable people.
The document also requests the establishment of a consultation framework under the aegis of the prefect, the establishment of a precise schedule of interventions, the designation of an interlocutor and the organization of a follow-up meeting within thirty days following the submission of the memorandum.
The mobilization comes the day after an inspection mission by the National Road Safety Agency (ANASER) in the department. Friday October 16, a delegation from the agency went to Goudiry following requests from the population in favor of the installation of speed bumps. She also paid a courtesy visit to the prefect of the department, Alseyni Bangoura.
The organizers do not intend to prejudge responsibility for the accidents mentioned, but are calling for preventive measures to reduce the risks on this road. Their message summarizes the objective of the mobilization: “ Speed bumps today to save lives tomorrow! »
