Egypt: Mohamed Salah and a ghost called up for the clash against Tunisia

Egypt national coach Rui Vitoria has revealed his list of internationals selected for the September gathering. The Pharaohs will face Ethiopia in the CAN 2023 qualifier and Tunisia in a friendly match.

Like the other African nations, Egypt will also play next September in the CAN 2023 qualifiers, scheduled for February 13 to 11, 2024. The Pharaohs will cross paths with Ethiopia on September 8 in Cairo. A meeting counting for the sixth day of the qualifying phases of the continental tournament. Four days later, they will host Tunisia for a friendly match.

Already qualified for the final phase of the competition, the Egyptians have nothing to fear from the outcome of these two matches. But the Maghreb team wants to use it to prepare for the CAN which it intends to snatch the trophy this time after having failed in the final in the previous edition, beaten on penalties by Senegal.

The nine expatriates already known

And already, the national coach, Rui Vitoria, has unveiled the list of expatriates called up for these two matches. A party of nine players including several household names and a revenant. Of course, the captain of the Pharaohs, Mohamed Salah, (88 selections, 49 goals), is retained. More appeared since 2018, Sam Morsy (7 selections), the midfielder of Ipswich Town in the Championship, will make his return.

Back from injury, Mahmoud Trezeguet (61 caps, 11 goals) is also called up, as are Mohamed Sherif of Al-Khaleej, Hamdi Fathi of Al-Wakrah, Ahmed Hamdi of CF Montreal, Tarek Hamed of Ittihad Jeddah, Omar Marmoush of Eintracht Frankfurt and Mostafa Mohamed, the striker of FC Nantes.
