Ecobank Senegal is betting on its youth to accelerate its transformation October 1, 2026
The subsidiary of the pan-African group has formalized the integration of the third promotion of its “High potential” program. A strategic choice to regenerate its skills and adapt its model to changes in the financial industry.
This is a pivotal step for talent management within the Senegalese financial center. Ecobank Senegal formalized, on Wednesday September 30, at its premises, the integration of the third promotion of its “High potential” (Hipo) excellence program. At the end of a twelve-month immersive journey through the institution’s different professions, nineteen young executives officially joined the permanent workforce of the banking establishment.
Selected following a rigorous process involving around a hundred candidates, these employees followed an internal rotation course designed to accelerate their skills development. For management, this approach goes beyond the usual framework of personnel management: it responds to the imperative of generational renewal in a sector undergoing rapid technological change. “A bank can have good solutions, good technology, a good strategy, it remains above all a service company,” recalled Sahid Yallou, general manager of Ecobank Senegal, on this occasion.
During his speech, the head of the subsidiary insisted on the requirements expected of these new entrants, based on rigor, humility and a sense of community. Refusing any statutory comfort, Sahid Yallou has placed value creation and customer orientation at the heart of the moral contract linking the establishment to its employees. “Your best advocate at Ecobank is your performance,” he insisted.
For his part, the director of human resources, Ibrahima Sène, praised the involvement of the managers who supported this promotion throughout the year. Warning against the temptation to rely on acquired titles, he invited recruits to demonstrate their operational usefulness. “Potential is a promise. Don’t just be identified as talent, become contributors,” said Mr. Sène.
Spokesperson for this cohort, Marième Sankhé testified to the evolution of her peers during this incubation period, highlighting an increase in maturity and a strengthening of team spirit. “We have learned to get out of our comfort zone, to be patient and to accept not to master everything immediately,” she confided, affirming the desire of her promotion to bring a solid stone to the building.
This appointment comes at a time when the institution is seeking to gain administrative agility and speed of execution. Sahid Yallou also invited this new generation to shake up established habits to support the modernization of the bank: “I expect you to be a source of questioning of the status quo. We need to work at the speed of light. »
