Dakar region: Temporary suspension of “Navétanes” from October 26

The Governor of the Dakar region has suspended, until further notice, popular football matches commonly called “Navetanes”, as well as activities directly linked to them. The measure is applicable to the entire region, from Monday October 26, 2026.

In a decree signed on October 23, 2026, the Governor of the Dakar region, Ousmane Kane, ordered the temporary suspension of Navétanes meetings throughout the entire regional territory.

This decision comes in a context marked by the security imperatives linked to the organization of the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games, which mobilize significant resources from the defense and security forces. It aims in particular to prevent the risks of clashes between supporters and damage to public and private property, while preserving public order and the safety of people and property during this international event, underlines the decree.

The prefects of the departments of Dakar, Pikine, Guédiawaye, Rufisque and Keur Massar are responsible for ensuring the application of this measure, in coordination with the municipal authorities, the defense and security forces as well as those responsible for the Navétanes organizational structures, underlines the decree.
