Football administrator Gideon Mwenya says President Edgar Lungu’s presence during Chipolopolo games is motivating the team to win.
Mwenya who is FAZ Division two side Konkola Mine Police Football Club Chairperson has observed that everytime the Head of State was in the terraces at either Heroes or Levy Mwanawasa stadia, the morale among the team and fans was electric.
He said President Lungu was not just FAZ Patron by title but by action as he had demonstrated his true love for Zambian football.
He hailed the Head of State for always facilitating fans’ travels whenever Zambia was playing outside.
Mr. Mwenya described the support that Zambian football was receiving from the Head of State as unprecedented.
“I must say that His Excellency [President Lungu] is a true soccer fan. He is indeed a a patron not by word but action. His continued presence at the Heroes Stadium to watch games is a huge motivation to both the team (Chipolopolo) and the fans. Remember, this is a very busy man; he is the father of the nation but for him to find time to watch games, it shows you something big. Something that has never happened before in Zambia,” said Mwenya.
And Mwenya has expressed confidence that Zambia will qualify to the 2019 AFCON billed for Cameroon.
Mr. Mwenya said despite starting on the backfoot, Chipolopolo are back in business.
