Green Buffaloes defeated Al Masry 2-1 in their CAF Confederation Cup preliminary round, second leg match played in Lusaka on Tuesday afternoon but crashed out of the competition after losing the tie 5 – 2 on aggregate.
After losing the first leg in Port Said 4-0 over a week ago, Mike Katiba gave the military side a glimmer of hope when he opened the scoring ten minutes into the second leg but the task of overturning the tie became monumental after Ahmed Gomma equalised five minutes later.
Stephen Kabamba’s late winner, three minutes from time, was all but a face saver as the Egyptians had already done enough to progress to the first round where they will meet the winner of the tie between Simba (Tanzania) and Gendarmerie Nationale (Djibouti).
After the elimination of Green Buffaloes, Nkana who were given a bye to the first round are now the only Zambian flag bearers in the competition.
Nkana await the winner of the tie between Onze Createurs (Mali) and CR Belouizdad (Algeria).
