Bassirou Diomaye Faye receives the CEO of France Médias Monde
The President of the Republic, Bassirou Diomaye Faye, received, Friday September 11, 2026, at the Palais de la République, the President and CEO of France Médias Monde, Marie-Christine Zaragosse, accompanied by a large delegation. The discussions focused in particular on the group’s activities in Senegal and on the prospects for cooperation in the audiovisual sector.
France Médias Monde reaffirms its roots in Senegal
During this audience, Marie-Christine Zaragosse presented to the Head of State the activities of France Médias Monde in Senegal, where Radio France Internationale (RFI) has been broadcasting in frequency modulation (FM) since 1991 in Dakar and in eight other cities in the country.
Since 2019, the group also has an editorial office located in Dakar, which produces programs in Fulfulde and Mandenkan. France Médias Monde also employs around 70 people in Senegal, the vast majority of them Senegalese journalists.
The head of the group also presented to the President of the Republic the investment program carried out in Senegal over the period 2020-2028.
Senegal reaffirms its commitment to press freedom
President Bassirou Diomaye Faye welcomed the commitment of France Médias Monde in Senegal. He recalled that the country remains open to all media and committed to press freedom, in compliance with the laws and regulations in force.
The Head of State, at the same time, reaffirmed the State’s availability to support players in the audiovisual sector, particularly in the development of the production and distribution of content.
At the end of the hearing, both parties expressed their desire to continue a constructive dialogue, with the objective of contributing to the development of quality information.
