Triathlon: A championship day to fine-tune preparation for the YOG Dakar 2026
The Senegalese triathlon is moving up a gear. A few days before the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games (YOG) (October 31-November 13, 2026), the Senegalese Triathlon Federation (FSTri) is organizing, this Sunday, October 18 from 8 a.m., a day of the national championship at Pointe Séréne. Objective: to offer athletes a full-scale competition before the major events of the season.
This day of competition will primarily serve as a dress rehearsal for the two Senegalese athletes selected for the YOG Dakar 2026: Ousmane Thiaw and Coura Sall. The two young triathletes will thus be able to experience racing conditions close to those which will await them during the global event, at home.
Beyond the two qualifiers, the FSTri intends to allow all of its athletes to prepare, particularly with a view to the Regional Development Cup, scheduled for December 6 in Saly.
The YOG format reproduced identically
To stick as closely as possible to Olympic reality, the organizers have chosen the same format as that of the YOG: 750 meters of swimming, 20 kilometers of cycling, 5 kilometers of running
The start of the swimming event will be given on the beach next to the RIU Baobab hotel. The competitors will then continue with cycling and running, on the secondary roads located between the national road and the hotel. The course will take the form of a closed circuit, to be completed over several laps.
A delegation immersed in Saly for a month
This competition comes at the end of long-term preparation. The Senegalese delegation first completed a two-month training camp in Dakar, before joining Saly a month ago. She evolves there under the guidance of the National Technical Director (DTN) and two coaches, in a working environment dedicated to the development of athletes.
With this championship day, the FSTri demonstrates its desire to methodically prepare for the YOG, while boosting the discipline on a national level. Meet on Sunday, from 8 a.m., at Pointe Séréne, for a morning where the youth of Senegalese triathlon will have the opportunity to show where they stand.
