Keur Massar: a hike by the Departmental Council to promote academic excellence
The Keur Massar Departmental Council organized a major departmental hike this Sunday, October 18, 2026. Designed as a warm-up for the 4th edition of the Day of Excellence, the activity brought together sport, health, awareness and citizen mobilization. It ended at the Malika High School, where the ceremony will be held, now set for December 5.
The streets of the Keur Massar department took on the appearance of a large popular gathering. At the initiative of the Departmental Council, and in collaboration with the Fédération des Randonneurs du Senegal, walkers of all ages took part in a departmental hike placed under the sign of sport, health and social cohesion.
Starting from Keur Massar Nord, the caravan reached the Malika High School, the starting point for the march and the future setting for the Day of Excellence. The choice of this course is not trivial: it symbolically links physical effort to academic success, in accordance with the theme chosen for this fourth edition, “Education and sport: the keys to excellence”.
With this hike, the Departmental Council, chaired by Professor Babacar Guèye, intends to broaden the celebration of academic merit to a more global approach to excellence. According to the community, the success of young people is based as much on academic performance as on discipline, perseverance, health and well-being, values that sports practice carries. The activity also made it possible to take the Day of Excellence beyond the purely academic framework, by involving the populations of the department in the dynamics around the event.
Beyond promoting physical activity, the hike served as a platform to raise awareness about the fight against human trafficking. The organizers called for collective mobilization and increased vigilance in the face of this scourge.
The arrival in Malika was the opportunity to officially announce the date of the 4th edition of the Day of Excellence. Initially planned for October 21, it will finally be held on Saturday December 5, 2026 at the Malika High School. This meeting should make it possible to reward the best students in the department who have excelled in national exams and competitions, to promote their performances and to encourage the culture of excellence among all students.
During previous editions, some 500 students from the department were awarded prizes and received teaching and computer equipment and school supplies.
