Mita the Gladiatrice: After “Fi Lëp Tambalé”, the rest is written as a mixtape October 5, 2026
Crowned Best Ep at the Galsen Hip-Hop Awards 2025, “Fi Lëp Tambalé” offered Mita the Gladiatrice recognition that rewards several years of work. From her two Flow Up finals to the preparation of her new mixtape, “Leguii Nakk”, the rapper from Thiaroye continues to build a universe where personal experiences, emotions and views on her generation intersect.
The trophy arrived after several years of work. He also posed a new requirement. With “Fi Lëp Tambalé”, her seven-track Ep, Mita la Gladiatrice won the Best Ep prize at the Galsen Hip-Hop Awards 2025. A distinction that counts in Aminata Ndiaye’s career, but which she does not consider as a finish line. “This distinction confirmed to me that hard work always pays off in the end,” she says. The project was particularly dear to him. He recounted part of his journey, the things he experienced and the emotions that nourished his writing. The reward therefore came to recognize personal work, but above all it reinforced the pressure that the artist now intends to exert on herself. “Receiving the Best Ep award at the Galsen Hip-Hop Awards 2025 gave me more motivation, but also responsibilities,” explains the artist.
The requirements do not only relate to the texts. They also concern artistic choices, visuals and the way of presenting a project to the public. “I must now be even more demanding in my texts, my artistic choices, my visuals and the way I defend my projects,” she continues. But, Mita already knows the taste of competitions. In 2022, she reached the final of Flow Up.
An identity that is being built
Two years later, she returned there. Between these two meetings, the rapper is no longer quite the same. She has gained in confidence, but also in precision in her writing and in her relationship to the stage. “Between 2022 and 2024, I gained maturity and confidence,” she admits. In 2022, the artist emphasizes, she was still seeking to show what she was capable of. In 2024, it arrives with more perspective. Two years during which his experiences continued to fuel his texts and clarify his artistic identity. “My writing has been enriched through lived experiences and a better understanding of my emotions,” she explains. This development is not just a matter of technology. It touches on the artist’s relationship to his own history. Because Mita doesn’t just write from herself. Since her beginnings, she says she wants to tell what she experiences, what she feels, but also what many young people, especially women, go through around her. His rap then draws on the intimate without being locked in there.
His stage name could have been a simple image. “Mita the Gladiatrix” has become over time a way of summarizing a state of mind. But the artist wants to clarify the meaning she gives to this word: “Being a gladiator, for me, is not looking for conflict. It’s knowing how to get up, move forward despite difficulties and not give up in the face of obstacles. » For Mita, the fight is above all linked to the desire to remain faithful to a direction. “My struggles are linked to my journey, my ambition and my desire to show that a woman can find her place, impose her voice and build her career without conforming to a box,” she says. This question of the place of women necessarily runs through her journey. But she does not want her artistic identity to be reduced to this single dimension. In Senegalese hip-hop where female artists continue to seek their space, Mita prefers to talk about music first. “If my journey can encourage other young women to believe in themselves and take their place, that will be a great satisfaction,” she says. But this desire to serve as an example does not mean that she wants to carry an additional label, because Mita does not want to be reduced to the expression “female rapper”. The challenge now is to consolidate what has been built with “Fi Lëp Tambalé”. The prize obtained at the Galsen Hip-Hop Awards gives additional visibility to the Ep, but it also places the next project under the gaze of a public who is waiting to see what Mita will do after this first consecration. The answer can be found in “Leguii Nakk”, the mixtape she is currently preparing. The title means “And now”.
Gladiator on stage
Two words that say a lot about the position in which the rapper finds herself today. After the first scenes, the two finals of Flow Up and the Best EP award, we have to think about what’s next. And this sequel will not be a simple extension of the Ep. “With this mixtape, I want to take a new step,” she announces. The artist wants to explore other sounds, try new ways of writing and show facets of his personality that the public is less familiar with. The approach is also a way of not settling into a formula that would have worked. “Fi Lëp Tambalé” laid the foundations of its history and retraced the path traveled. The new project will further show the direction that Aminata Ndiaye, aka Mita the Gladiator, wants to take.
