Heavy rains: the regional emergency plan triggered in Dakar (Video)
The Prime Minister, Ahmadou Alhaminou M. Lô, announced, Monday October 5, the triggering of the regional emergency plan in Dakar, as well as the establishment of a monitoring committee, following the heavy rainfall recorded in Senegal.
“The regional emergency plan will be triggered to allow us to be on permanent standby,” declared the head of government after an emergency meeting devoted to the situation.
The meeting, chaired by the Prime Minister, brought together the Ministers of the Interior, Education, Family, Social Action and Solidarity, the Minister of Sanitation, the Minister of the Armed Forces, the Minister of Infrastructure, the Minister of Transport, representatives of the Ministries of Health and Finance, in order to take stock of the consequences of bad weather and coordinate the response of public authorities.
Ahmadou Alhaminou Lô gave instructions to strengthen surveillance and anticipate a possible worsening of the situation. This vigilance is all the more necessary as “high probabilities” of rain are forecast between Tuesday and Wednesday.
“It is a question of reviewing the situation,” explained the Prime Minister, who assured that the government remains particularly attentive to the evolution of weather conditions and their consequences on the populations.
In the humanitarian aspect, the Minister of Family and Solidarity was instructed to provide, “without delay”, relief and assistance to disaster victims as well as to populations affected or in situations of need.
At the end of the meeting, the Prime Minister, on behalf of the President of the Republic, presented his condolences and expressed his compassion to the families affected by the consequences of this heavy rainfall.
The triggering of the regional system thus aims to maintain a permanent watch, to anticipate new precipitation and to ensure a coordinated response from State services to possible new impacts.
