Pro League: Wally Daan, meeting the challenges despite limited resources
Wally Daan is entering the final phase of preparation launched three weeks ago. Under the leadership of its new coach, the Thiessois club recently faced Ajel in Diamniadio (1-1; 1-3 on penalties).
For Lamine Diagne, these matches are an essential diagnostic tool to evaluate the game and correct malfunctions. “On some points, we were satisfied, but on others, we were less,” he admits. Deeming 100% preparation unrealistic, he estimates that his group will be 80 or 90% ready for the first day, at home, against Stade de Mbour. For his third consecutive season in the elite, Wally Daan dreams of overtaking the 5th place obtained twice under Sellé Dieng. But Lamine Diagne, hired for only one season, considers the objective complicated, due to lack of sufficient human, financial and logistical resources. Recruitment leaves him wanting more.
“Key elements have left and, unfortunately, we have not carried out the necessary recruitment to compensate for these departures in various positions. We could have done better,” he regrets. Among the starters are wingers Ibrahima Haidara and Albert Bougazelli, who left for Teungueth Fc, and attacking midfielder Mame Saliou Thioune, who joined Stade Tunisien. The coach nevertheless promises to do everything to exceed 5th place and compete with the best. “We will put all the assets on our side and work sustainably to achieve our objectives. It will not be easy, especially against teams like Ajel, Teungueth and Jaraaf, who have recruited at a very good level,” he concludes.
