Guy Marius Sagna demands the start of work August 27, 2026

In Ziguinchor, the Émile Badiane and Tobor bridges crystallize concerns and impatience. Visiting these two structures, MP Guy Marius Sagna once again questioned the government on the delays observed and called for the effective start of the rehabilitation work.

ZIGUINCHOR- The alert goes up a notch. Under the Tobor bridge, then opposite the Émile Badiane bridge, Guy Marius Sagna chose the terrain to relaunch an issue that has become, according to him, an emergency for the entire region. “For four years, I have continued to question the government on the state of the bridges in Ziguinchor. These works are essential. To access the city, you must necessarily take them, unless you take a long detour via Goudomp,” recalled the deputy for the Ziguinchor department.

For the elected official, the state of the Émile Badiane bridge is particularly worrying. He claims to have contacted the government several times since 2024 to find out the measures planned to secure and rehabilitate the two infrastructures. “We were assured that the file was in progress, that the calls for tenders had been launched and that the work would begin. The Minister of Infrastructure, Déthié Fall, even announced the launch of the work on July 31. Today we are almost a month after this deadline and, on the ground, nothing has yet started,” he lamented.

The parliamentarian now refuses to be satisfied with announcements. According to him, people want to see workers hard at work rather than new official ceremonies. “The residents of Ziguinchor no longer just want to hear about laying the foundation stone or starting work. What they are waiting for is the real start of the projects, their continuity and their completion. It is only when they see the work progressing that they can be reassured,” he insisted. Guy Marius Sagna therefore calls on the government to act before a more serious accident occurs. He recalls that incidents involving trucks and vehicles in particular have already been recorded on these structures. “Prevention is better than cure. It would be irresponsible to wait until a more serious tragedy occurs before reacting.

The Émile Badiane and Tobor bridges must be rehabilitated without further delay, because the security and mobility of the population cannot suffer further from these delays,” insisted the MP. For Guy Marius Sagna, the countdown is on. Beyond the promises, the populations of Ziguinchor now expect action and, above all, visible work on the two bridges.
